Six tournaments, seven days, nearly 600 players and 897 competitive entries. A Semana Grande shaped by sport, friendship and a responsible eye on the future.
Some weeks produce good results. Others leave something more: busy courses, families sharing the occasion, children celebrating, conversations after a round and the feeling that the Club has been lived particularly fully.
Semana Grande 2026 was one of those weeks.
From 10 to 16 August, Guadalmina hosted six tournaments across the South and North Courses. Nearly 600 players took part in a fixture that is now firmly established in the Club calendar and continues to generate great interest among Members, Members’ Guests and families.
Semana Grande is not simply a succession of tournaments. Given its importance to the Club, it is an event in its own right, with each competition providing an occasion to come together: each with its own character, sponsor, course, participants and moment of celebration. Together, they make a unique week; individually, each deserves its own attention.
Six tournaments, six occasions with their own identity
On Monday, the South Course opened Semana Grande with the GolFriend’s Tournament, which brought together 193 players. The day benefited from the valuable support of Mr Antonio Valle, owner of the brand, who gave generously of his time and support to the Club for the opening of a week set to bring together great golf and a wonderful atmosphere.
Alexander Reynders and Yaiza Morales Vázquez
led the men’s and ladies’ scratch standings, while Christiaan Reijnders Le Rutte, Declan Fearon, Rosa María Sánchez Gonzalo, Guadalupe Valencia Moreno and Miriam Zarza Ledesma stood out across the various handicap categories.

On Tuesday, the North Course hosted the EZ-GO Tournament, with 180 jugadores. César Bermúdez de Castro, Commercial Manager of Green Mowers, the distributor for the EZ-GO brand, attended a day that combined competition, hospitality and a great Club atmosphere.
Timothy Waller and Marc Waller Torras won the first division; Salvador Zarza Mena e Ismael Zarza Ledesma, the second; y Santiago Carralero Requena and Javier Ausín Ajuria, the third. At the 11th hole, EZ-GO, set up a refreshments tent with ham, cheese, cured pork loin, soft drinks and chilled beer (Mahou San Miguel, of course!!) — a particularly welcome break midway through the round.

Borja Alonso Urcelay and Paula López Itoiz topped the scratch standings. Sebastián Peña García, Javier Pérez-Ximénez Gálvez, Rosa María Sánchez Gonzalo, Carmen González Tejeiro y Gonzaga Ballesta Belaunde were among the winners in the handicap categories.

On Friday and Saturday, the South Course staged the eagerly awaited Team Tournament, with con 104 players. Elena Juanas Crowe and Pablo Salto Peláez claimed the scratch prize on Friday with 40 points. The winning team in the First Category comprised Anthony Kettlewell, Francisco Macías, Jose Muñoz Calvente and José Hernández Reina; in the Second Category, Consuelo Gonzalez, Paula M. Peña, Jaume Martínez y José Sangil.
All participants received a welcome pack consisting of a Titleist cap and a box of Sirixon
balls suited to their playing level — a thoughtful detail for one of Semana Grande’s most traditional and distinctive competitions.

On Sunday, the youngest players brought the week to a close with the Torneo Guadalminos, which welcomed 117 players across its various categories. Prizes, a raffle, mini burgers, ice creams and the eagerly awaited final dip in the pool provided the perfect conclusion to seven days of activity.
It was a day that captures the family spirit we want to continue fostering at Real Club de Golf Guadalmina.

Throughout the week, players also enjoyed refreshments on the course: a cold drink, fruit, a snack bar and a sandwich to accompany each day’s competition.
Prizes, recognition and a shared celebration
Thursday saw the prize-giving for the first four tournaments, followed by the Team Tournament prize-giving on Saturday. Both occasions provided an opportunity to congratulate the winners, share experiences from the course and enjoy each other’s company beyond the competition itself.
At Thursday’s prize-giving, the Board wished to pay tribute to the people whose daily work enables Guadalmina to operate, welcome Members and continue improving. It was a sincere acknowledgement of those who care for the Club every day and make it possible for its facilities, services and activities to meet the standards we all expect.
More than 140 gifts were awarded through the Thursday and Saturday raffles. The process was open and visible to everyone present: participants’ names were placed in a transparent ice bucket; the Member drawn then selected their own prize by taking a slip from a large bowl, before drawing another slip with the name of the next winner. The process continued in this way until all the prizes had been awarded.
Whole cured ham shoulders, sliced specialities, sporting equipment and gifts of very different values — from a Vessel bag to two Club-inspired key rings — formed part of a celebration designed to be followed and enjoyed with complete transparency.
Competing on a more even footing
Semana Grande also marked the first use of the new handicap system applied to each competition. It was a measure many Members had been looking forward to, and it has generally resulted in more balanced outcomes that better reflect the true playing level of those who chose to take part.
The system is applied to all competitors in each tournament. It calculates a Competition Handicap by removing non-competitive rounds from a player’s handicap record and, for every such round removed, adding an official tournament result to the player’s 20 best scores before recalculating their handicap. This is carried out automatically for every competition in which the player takes part, once their handicap has been updated against the Royal Spanish Golf Federation database.
The purpose is clear: to strengthen the sporting value of the tournaments, promote equal opportunity and preserve the appeal of competing at Guadalmina. The experience of this first implementation will allow the system to be refined further in future events.
A Semana Grande that is enjoyable and sustainable
An event of this scale needs partners who help make it possible. We would like to thank this edition’s principal sponsors: Reale Seguros, EZ-GO / Greenmowers, Mahou San Miguel, Green Nature, Rimesa, GolFriend’s y Bosu Sport, as well as all the other collaborators.
Their involvement has helped enrich the experience for players through prizes, refreshments and many of the details that gave this Semana Grande its distinctive character.
It is equally important that an event of this nature leaves not only good memories, but also responsible accounts. The current Board, in place since late May, used the available data from the 2025 edition to prepare the 2026 budget: entry fees were maintained, expenditure of €45,000 was budgeted on the basis of the previous year’s income, and the celebrations were concentrated into just two cocktail events.
The final accounts show €56,417 in income, €45,259 in expenditure and a surplus of €11,159, driven primarily by greater-than-expected participation from Members’ Guests. More than €14,000 was dedicated directly to prizes, gifts and welcome packs; and more than €28,000 to catering, cocktail events and on-course refreshments.
The principle behind this model is straightforward: those taking part should enjoy a complete experience and, at the same time, the activity should be funded, as far as possible, through entry fees, associated services and sponsorship. In this way, Members who do not take part are not asked to bear the cost of an activity they have not enjoyed, while the Club’s shared resources can continue to benefit Guadalmina as a whole.

Learning in order to improve
Organising an event of this scale requires the ability to review and improve. Some needs identified during Thursday’s event led to adjustments for Saturday. The Semana Grande as a whole has since been analysed, and has already defined areas of work for future events.
The experience does not end with the final tournament. It helps us consolidate what worked well, correct what can be improved and prepare the next edition in good time. Work on Semana Grande 2027 has already begun.
Our thanks go to the players, their families, the sponsors, the collaborators and everyone who contributed to making this week possible. Guadalmina has enjoyed seven days of golf, companionship and Club life.
