Past Captains’ Day: A Tradition at the Heart of Guadalmina

Past Captains’ Day 2026 at the Real Club de Golf Guadalmina

Dear Members,

Some occasions derive their true significance not simply from what happens on the day itself, but from everything they represent after so many years of shared history.

Last Wednesday, 30 September, the Real Club de Golf Guadalmina once again brought together a number of our former Lady Captains for another edition of Past Captains’ Day Guadalmina, a long-standing occasion where golf provides the perfect setting for those who, at different times in our history, have played such a special role in the life of the Club to meet once again.

The competition was played over 18 holes, with Elena Santos emerging as this year’s winner and receiving the historic trophy donated by Lee Harlow 27 years ago — a trophy which, over the years, has itself become part of the history of this special gathering.

Beyond the result, much of what makes a day such as this so meaningful lies simply in coming together again. After the golf came the traditional lunch at the Club: an opportunity to share a table and, no doubt, revisit many of the stories, memories and experiences that form part of Guadalmina’s history and can only truly be told by those who have lived it so closely.

Joining the lunch were Lynn Nathan, Seonaid McLeod, Leona Polestra, Anne Langaard, Elena Santos, Margareta Forsgardh, Peggy Behan, Linda Jones, Nina Digsmed and Laura Sullivan, pictured from left to right in the photograph accompanying this article.

The fact that this gathering continues to take place year after year is, in itself, a wonderful way of keeping the Club’s history alive and strengthening the bonds between those who have helped shape it.

The Real Club de Golf Guadalmina would like to take this opportunity to express our sincerest gratitude to all our former Lady Captains for the invaluable contribution they have made over the years. Their dedication, together with that of those who have since held the role and those who will take on this responsibility in the years ahead — Lady Captains and Club Captains alike — has been, and will continue to be, fundamental to the sporting and social life of Guadalmina and to preserving the Club spirit we hope to pass on to future generations.

Thank you for everything you have given — and continue to give — to the Real Club de Golf Guadalmina.

THANK YOU SO MUCH, CAPTAINS!!!
