With three Alevín players and one Infantil, our team stood ninth after the opening round and finished 15th Scratch out of 35 clubs, improving by five places on 2025.
Some results reveal their true significance only when viewed beyond the final standings.
The Real Club de Golf Guadalmina returned to competition on 29 and 30 August at the Spanish Interclub Junior Championship, held at Lauro Golf and featuring 35 clubs from across Spain.
Inés Gómez-Balboa, Martina Tirado, Juan Antonio (Juanito) Macías and Sergio Rubiales, with Cristina Domínguezas captain, had the responsibility of representing our Club at one of the leading events on the Spanish junior golf calendar.
And there is one detail that gives particular context to their performance: three of the four members of the Guadalmina team were still competing in the Alevín age category.
Inés, Martina and Sergio all remain Alevín players, while Juanito is the only member of the team already competing at Infantil level. It was an unusually young line-up when compared with many of the teams towards the top of the leaderboard. La Cañada, the eventual Spanish champions, fielded four Infantil players, as did runners-up Real Sociedad Hípica Española Club de Campo.
Indeed, none of the top five teams in the final standings included three Alevín players, as Guadalmina did.
Ninth after the opening round
Saturday provided one of the most encouraging moments of the Championship.
Guadalmina completed the opening 18 holes in 318 strokes, a score that placed the team in an excellent shared ninth position alongside Club de Golf Aranjuez among the 35 participating clubs.
Individually, Inés Gómez-Balboa opened with a round of 76, the best Guadalmina card of the day. She arrived at Lauro as the reigning Spanish Alevín Champion, having secured the national title earlier this summer.
Juanito Macías also deserves particular mention for his consistency, completing the Championship with consecutive rounds of 77, an excellent display of solidity across both days.
Following the second round and the application of the permitted discard under the competition format, Guadalminacompleted the Championship on 553 strokes and in 15th place Scratch, level on total score with Aranjuez and just three strokes away from 11th place.
A step forward
The result also represents clear progress from last season.
In the 2025 edition, also played at Lauro Golf, the Real Club de Golf Guadalmina finished 20th Scratch. Twelve months later, our team has moved five places higher while fielding a group with considerable room for further development.
That is where the true value of this performance lies: competing against some of Spain’s strongest junior programmes, sitting inside the top ten after the opening round and ultimately finishing in the top half of the field with an exceptionally young team.
A result that says something about the present, while giving us even greater reason to look ahead.
A story that continues
Guadalmina knows this Championship well.
Our Club has been crowned Spanish Interclub Junior Champion on three occasions: 2001, 2007 and 2010. Those titles belong to earlier generations and form part of a sporting history of which we can rightly be proud.
The challenge now is to ensure that future generations are given the opportunities, coaching, structure and support they need to one day write chapters of their own in the history of the Real Club de Golf Guadalmina.
And that is precisely where one word begins to carry particular meaning for us:
We continue.
We continue competing, developing and learning. But continuing does not simply mean doing more of the same. It also means reviewing, organising, planning, evolving and knowing clearly where we want to go next.
The recent appointment of Rogelio Ortega “Roge” as Golf Academy Coordinator forms part of that commitment to strengthening one of the most important projects within our Club.
His arrival marks the beginning of a new stage, built upon the work carried out over recent years and on foundations that we want to continue developing. The Club has great confidence in his experience, judgement and ability to bring structure, organisation, new working methods and a clear vision for the future to our Golf Academy.
This is not about breaking with what came before. It is about adding to it, evolving and building upon everything that has already been achieved.
We also know that no serious project can be judged after only a few weeks. Results are the consequence of the talent and commitment of our players, the daily work of our professionals, the essential support of families and, above all, a structure capable of accompanying young golfers throughout their development.
For that reason, Roge has the full confidence and support of the Club as he develops a project in which we strongly believe and which we approach with enthusiasm, high standards and responsibility.
September: a new golfing year begins
And very soon, we will be able to share more.
During the first days of September, we will hold a presentation meeting for the new golfing year at the Real Club de Golf Guadalmina Golf Academy, where we will share with players and families the principal areas of work for this new stage.
It will also provide the opportunity to introduce a number of new initiatives that we have been developing to further improve coaching, competition and the overall experience of our Academy players.
We do not want to reveal too much just yet.
Only one small clue: this is not simply about training more, but about continuing to build a better Golf Academy.
An Academy designed, naturally, for those who aspire to compete at the highest level, but equally for those who are taking their first swings, discovering the game and beginning to feel that Guadalmina is part of their world.
Because perhaps the youngest members of our Club explain better than anyone why all this work matters.
They are the players who may one day represent our teams, share matches, journeys and championships, make lifelong friends around a putting green and grow up alongside their families at Guadalmina.
And, with a little luck, they will also be the ones who continue to feel that this Club is truly theirs many years from now.
That is where an important part of our future lies.

Everyone at the Real Club de Golf Guadalmina would like to congratulate Inés, Martina, Juanito and Sergio on their performance and, above all, on the responsibility with which they represented our Club.
Our thanks also go to Cristina Domínguez for her work as captain; to Roge and all the professionals within our Golf Academy for their daily commitment; and to the families, whose support and dedication remain indispensable throughout this important stage of development.
The Spanish Championship at Lauro is now over.

With respect for everything that has been built before us, confidence in those now taking on new responsibilities and the conviction that the future does not simply arrive: it is built through work, commitment and organisation.
